Product Details

FULLN GLAZE ceramic glaze pigment maroon FU-1306 is an inorganic ceramic pigment under high temperature calcination. It’s made of Tin oxide, Calcium carbonate, Chrome oxide, SiO2 and other raw matetials. All the raw materials are under processes of mixing, calcining and micro-powder treatment. During this procession, Tin oxide, Calcium oxide and SiO2 turn into the crystal structure of calcium spicerite. The fine grains of Cr2O3 are evenly dispersed on the calcium spicerite matrix. The composition may includes a small amount of boric acid. These ceramic glaze pigments can be used in high calcium and low zinc glaze.

How to make the maroon pigment?

The main mineral composition of maroon is sphene. The higher the content of sphene in the reagent, the better the color.Maroon glaze must be fired in an oxidizing atmosphere. The main chemical valence of chromium in  maroon is Cr4+.The chromating mechanism is due to the displacement of Sn4+ in the sphene lattice by chromium doping Cr4+, which deform the octahedron [SnO6].As a result, the colorant forms a wide absorption band around 520nm of visible light reflection spectrum, making the glaze appear agate red.

Classification of ceramic colors

According to its composition, ceramic colorants can be divided into six types: oxide type, composite oxide type, silicate type, borate type, phosphate type and cadmiumate type.

Each class can be subdivided into several subclasses. In the composite oxide type, most of the colors belong to spinel type. The simplest of these consists of two valence and three valence cations.Among the silicate types, the simplest structures are isolated silicates consisting of a silicon-oxygen tetrahedron [SiO4]4- group, such as the olivite type.
